In 2003, the late wife of Rick Anderson called him at work with an exciting discovery: a 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport in Bulls Gap, Tennessee, that she wanted to buy. Unbeknownst to Rick, bringing it home would require two trucks and a trailer. Upon arrival, he discovered that the car was completely disassembled, though it was a true Super Sport with date codes confirming its authenticity.
Once home, they began the restoration as funds allowed, spending many late nights in the garage together, enjoying each other's company and their shared passion for the car. Carolyn's enthusiasm for the Chevelle often meant that Rick would come home to find her already out there working on it. Despite his warnings about the dangers of working alone, she was determined to be involved. One day, he discovered her shimmying out from under the car, demonstrating that she could escape if it were to fall.
During the restoration, the car developed a squeak, prompting Rick and Carolyn to disassemble it again to replace the bushings between the body and frame. They completed all the restoration and bodywork themselves, except for the paint job, which was expertly done by Scottie Cope. Tragically, Carolyn passed away in April 2022.
In the summer of 2023, in her memory, Rick took the Chevelle to the Strawberry Festival in Morristown, Tennessee, where it won the People’s Choice Award. The car now stands as a cherished tribute to their shared dedication and the joyful moments spent together in the garage.
